During the planning stages in our 10 year expansion project ( 2005 - 2015 ) an endless pool was designed into the plans . The sequence of events leading up to its placement in ground & completion ; involved excavating a hole measuring 6 ft. deep by 16 feet in length , below the basement floor , soon after the foundation walls were poured , at risk of the newly curing walls collapsing ! Then a custom pre cast 6 ton shell was lowered into the excavation . Jacuzzi Jets were installed & I hooked up all of the plumbing , first having to dig a tunnel under the current floor to access the boiler room in the old part of the basement, the tunnel was 12 feet in length and I had to crawl under the old foundation to snake in the new 2 in. & 1.5 in. pvc piping ! I completed the form work for the underwater stairs . And also poured & troweled out the rough concrete hopper which is common to pools , An underwater light nich was roughed in with it's associated electrical feed . Next came the ceramic tile placed @ the rim of the pool . Then a 1/4 inch coat of marcite pool plaster was applied to the walls of the pool . At this point , the pool project went dormant for about 6 years while I attended to finish work on the main body of what was to become our B & B . Resuming work in 2014, the pool pump & filter was installed ( used from Underwater pool masters ) , as well as a Harmsco heater / filter ( used from Quist Bros. Ken Quist ) . The main drive unit for the endless pool ( often called a swim spa ) is a 24 volt trolling unit which produced 80 lbs. of thrust , powered by a 24 volt D.C. power supply . The completed pool features a multi -colored reflective glass rim tile ! As well as a bluestone cooping at the pool's edge ! Pool water depth @ the main drain is 5 ft. and the convex set of underwater stairs lead up to a central safety rail when exiting the pool , after a workout !
